Why this personality / sensor
Propane is heavier than air and slides into pits. MPD IR tuned for C₃ does not need oxygen and ignores silicone poisons that kill CB1 beads. Mount 200–400 mm above grade at the pit lip, not on the roof.
Personality and replaceable parts
XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 uses the mV personality (MPD catalytic / MPD IR) board and mates with Honeywell MPD catalytic bead or MPD infrared sensors. Factory-fitted with MPD IR propane 0–100 %LEL. Spares live on product-3991. Do not substitute Sensepoint XCD cartridges on XNX.
Typical applications
LPG tank farms, bottle-filling halls and kitchen-gas manifolds need a propane-specific IR trip. XNX hard-wires 4–20 mA HART to tank ESD; a handheld only proves the aisle you walked.

Installation and wiring
Wall-mount XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 (316 stainless steel, approx. 5.0 kg) on a rigid stand sized for that mass. This SKU uses 4 × M25 entries—glands must match; do not retap XNX-AMSV-NHIF1. Land XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 4–20 mA HART per the loop drawing; relays/Modbus/FFB exist only on the matching option board. Magnetic-wand menus on the XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 lid stay non-intrusive. XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 propane belongs at the pit lip, not the roof.
FAQ
- Can I use methane IR instead of XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 on an LPG skid?
- No. Response curves differ. XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 is propane (IF1). IV1 methane IR will under-alarm a propane release.
- Does XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 work in oxygen-free LPG vapour space?
- Yes. MPD IR on XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 does not combust the sample, so inerted LPG vapour spaces remain measurable.
- Why is XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 316SS instead of aluminium?
- XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 is the marine/sour-service body (~5 kg). Inland dry rooms can take aluminium sibling XNX-AMAV-NHIF1 and save mass on the bracket.
- Can I convert XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 from ATEX M25 to NPT in the field?
- No. XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 flameproof entries are machined M25. North-American NPT is UL sibling XNX-UTSV-NHIF1, not an adaptor on this ATEX body.
- Does XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 include alarm relays?
- No. XNX-AMSV-NHIF1 is 4–20 mA HART only. Local trip contacts need option-R sibling XNX-AMSV-RHIF1; plant-bus needs Modbus XNX-AMSV-MHIF1 or Foundation Fieldbus XNX-AMSV-FHIF1.
