Honeywell XNX XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 – MPD IR propane 0–100 %LEL, mV, UL, Aluminium, 3/4" NPT
XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 is a factory-configured Honeywell XNX with MPD infrared propane 0–100 %LEL, mV personality, UL / cUL, 4 × 3/4" NPT, LM25 aluminium (painted), 3 relays + 4–20 mA HART, local HART port on the transmitter. Order it for LPG bullets and cylinder halls; methane IR (IV1) will under-read propane.

Why this personality / sensor
Propane is heavier than air and slides into pits. MPD IR tuned for C₃ does not need oxygen and ignores silicone poisons that kill CB1 beads. Mount 200–400 mm above grade at the pit lip, not on the roof.
Personality and replaceable parts
XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 uses the mV personality (MPD catalytic / MPD IR) board and mates with Honeywell MPD catalytic bead or MPD infrared sensors. Factory-fitted with MPD IR propane 0–100 %LEL. Spares live on product-3991. Do not substitute Sensepoint XCD cartridges on XNX.
Typical applications
LPG tank farms, bottle-filling halls and kitchen-gas manifolds need a propane-specific IR trip. XNX hard-wires 4–20 mA HART to tank ESD; a handheld only proves the aisle you walked.

Installation and wiring
Wall-mount XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 (LM25 aluminium (painted), approx. 2.8 kg) on a rigid stand sized for that mass. This SKU uses 4 × 3/4" NPT entries—glands must match; do not retap XNX-UTAV-RHIF1. Land XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 4–20 mA HART per the loop drawing; relays/Modbus/FFB exist only on the matching option board. Magnetic-wand menus on the XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 lid stay non-intrusive. XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 propane belongs at the pit lip, not the roof.
FAQ
- Can I use methane IR instead of XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 on an LPG skid?
- No. Response curves differ. XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 is propane (IF1). IV1 methane IR will under-alarm a propane release.
- Does XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 work in oxygen-free LPG vapour space?
- Yes. MPD IR on XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 does not combust the sample, so inerted LPG vapour spaces remain measurable.
- When should I swap XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 aluminium for 316SS?
- Use XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 (aluminium, ~2.8 kg) in inland, painted plant. Coastal, splash and sour-water decks should move to stainless sibling XNX-UTSV-RHIF1.
- Why is XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 NPT instead of M25?
- XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 is the UL/cUL body and ships 3/4" NPT. Do not tap M25 on this lid—order ATEX sibling XNX-AMAV-RHIF1 if metric glands are mandatory.
- What do the three relays on XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 do?
- XNX-UTAV-RHIF1 adds three configurable relays on top of 4–20 mA HART—typically A1/A2/fault. It is not Modbus; bus siblings are XNX-UTAV-MHIF1 / XNX-UTAV-FHIF1.
